Reign of the Black Empire, Hearthstone’s next expansion, launches on October 20. The set revisits Azeroth during the rule of C’Thun, N’Zoth, Yogg-Saron, and Y’Shaarj, with Titan-forged forces opposing them. It also introduces Assemble, a keyword for creating customized minions.
The Four Old Gods
The expansion’s four Old Gods are Legendary Neutral minions:
- C'Thun, Eye of the Empire builds toward enhanced versions of its abilities.
- N'Zoth, Dream's End supports armies and Deathrattle effects.
- Mastermind Yogg-Saron takes an extra turn on the player’s behalf.
- Y'Shaarj, Titan Bane rewards decks centered on large minions.
Only one Old God can be included in a deck. Each has four once-per-game abilities and invokes two of them each turn instead of attacking. After all four abilities have been used, the Old God can attack normally.
C'Thun, Eye of the Empire
Cards such as Spawn of C'Thun help trigger C'Thun’s four abilities. After that condition is completed, summoning C'Thun, Eye of the Empire triples the effects of all four abilities.
Mastermind Yogg-Saron
Playing Mastermind Yogg-Saron gives it control of an entire extra turn on the player’s behalf.
N'Zoth, Dream's End
N'Zoth, Dream's End focuses on building an army, manipulating Deathrattle effects, and converting that setup into larger payoffs.
Y'Shaarj, Titan Bane
Y'Shaarj, Titan Bane is designed for strategies that survive the early game before taking control with especially large minions.
New Keyword: Assemble
Assemble adds a minion to your hand, then replaces part of that card’s text with text taken from another minion in a curated pool. This allows players to create different combinations suited to their game plan.
Titan-Forge Reinforcements
The set also represents the opposing side of the ancient conflict. Titan Watchers, celestial magic, and other Titan-forged forces join the fight against the Old Gods.
Isiset
Isiset is a Legendary Titan Watcher for Mage. Her Battlecry summons two 10 Attack / 10 Health Constructs. They remain Frozen until their controller has spent 15 Mana on spells, offering a combined 20 Attack / 20 Health once unlocked.
Event Cards and Free Rewards
Arrival of the Old Gods
Arrival of the Old Gods draws minions and refreshes Mana Crystals, supporting turns built around playing multiple creatures.
Arrival of the Titans
Arrival of the Titans draws spells and refreshes Mana Crystals, enabling earlier spell combinations.
Dark Terraforming
Dark Terraforming distributes damage across the battlefield.
Free M.O.T.H.E.R. Card
M.O.T.H.E.R., a legendary Watcher associated with the Titan-forged, can be added to players’ collections for free with Patch 36.6.
Arrival of the Old Gods, Arrival of the Titans, and Dark Terraforming can also be earned for free through in-game events held before the expansion launches.
Pre-Release Tavern Brawl
The returning Pre-Release Tavern Brawl allows players to open Reign of the Black Empire packs early, build decks with the new cards, and compete for prizes before launch.
- Event dates: October 13–20.
- Decks can contain only Reign of the Black Empire cards.
- All Common and Rare cards from the expansion are available as free Trial Cards during the event.
- Players select from predefined multi-class combinations before building a deck.
- Most combinations contain three classes.
- One special two-class combination has enhanced C'Thun synergies.
The free Trial Common and Rare cards can only be used in the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl. They remain available until the expansion unlocks on October 20 at 10:00 a.m. PDT.
Pre-Purchase Bundles
The Pre-Purchase Bundle and Mega Bundle remain available until Reign of the Black Empire launches on October 20. Buying both awards a free Random Golden Legendary Card from the expansion and unlocks the Sequence Bundle.
Purchasing all three pre-purchase bundles also awards the Way of the Monk Coin. Monk is scheduled to arrive in 2027.
